The Gift of Wisdom: The World Hungers

Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. – Proverbs 9:10

With just a few clicks, people who have access to information can avail of answers to every question that they may ask. Knowledge is of abundance as far as the technological advances we have had over the last few decades. If there is anything that the world is hungry about, it is wisdom.

With almost every tool at his disposal, it is no wonder that whatever tool man holds in his hand can be used for good and evil. God’s love for us is insurmountable. Hence He bestowed us a gift that no other creatures possess: the power to decide. In fact, so great is our God’s love for us that He respects our decision, whether good or bad. The Lord invites us to do good; He never forces us to do good.

A man who is filled with wisdom understands that people around him are also made in God’s image and likeness. And for that reason, he will deal with them as if he is dealing with his Creator. He will treat his fellow man with utter respect.

A reflection of our origin

A child who is proud of his parents and realizes that he bears the physical characteristics of his parents must also realize that wherever he goes, and whatever he does, he carries the imprint of those who were instrumental in bringing him to life. And for that reason, he must realize more importantly that his actions, whether he chooses to be a force for good or evil, will be a reflection of his parents.

This is not to say that a child should be forced to set goals in life that are very similar to what his parents had. And neither should it be said that there is no room for failure in a child’s undertakings so as not to humiliate his parents.

In God’s image and likeness

Wisdom comes with man’s realization that he is made in God’s image and likeness. If we, as the faithful, truly believe that we are made in God’s image and likeness, we will exert every effort to be a true reflection of our Divine Creator.

If we believe that God is a faithful God, we will also convey our faithfulness. We will do everything to be true to our promises. If we believe that God is a God of hope, we will also use our skills and talents to bring hope. We will bring to those who are in great despair. And if we believe that God is a God of love, then we will share our lives with people. We will always bear in mind that we want them to be enriched by the love we want to share.

But what is the significance of wisdom in a man’s life? Everything on earth can be used for good and bad. It is wisdom that tells a man who has mastery in whatever craft to use his gifts to do good.

Respect for creation

Wisdom is all about man’s respect for himself and his Heavenly Father. And in respecting himself, he would also give respect to all of creation.

A wise man will use his skills in technology to add value to people. He realizes that technological advancements can save and improve lives.

A wise man will use his gun to defend and secure the lives of people, not take people’s lives. He will not boast about the power he has on his hands to abuse those who defy him.

A wise man will not misuse the word love as a means to attain self-gratification. He will not cheat. He knows that there will be perilous effects on the lives of people that will be affected by his wrong actions.

My Banner

A man who is filled with wisdom understands that people around him are also made in God’s image and likeness. And for that reason, he will deal with them as if he is dealing with his Creator. He will treat his fellow man with utter respect.

May the Lord fill us with wisdom.

Be blessed and be a blessing!
